Deanna Krueger works abstractly at the juncture where painting, printmaking and
sculpture intersect. The process begins with recycled medical diagnostic film layered
with acrylic monotypes. The prints are then torn apart and the shards are
reconnected into new configurations using thousands of staples. The visual aesthetic
is at once high-tech and primordial. The resulting pieces are hybrids that evoke a
multitude of associations: aquatic life forms, otherworldly geological formations,
surreal vegetation, scientific images of the miniscule, visions of the cosmos.
Her work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, including The Illinois
Institute of Art – Chicago, Museum of Santa Severa - Italy, Berliner Liste 07,
Rackham Graduate School at University of Michigan, Rockford Art Museum, and
Chicago Cultural Center. Krueger received her BFA from the University of Michigan in
2002, and her MFA from Eastern Michigan University in 2004. In spring 2003 she
studied abroad through the Art in Italy program. Krueger resides in Chicago where
she also teaches art and design courses at Northeastern Illinois University.
